I am Ethiopian by birth but I grew up in Jamaica so I know both languages pretty well. Let me tell you about my journey to date so you will know what you are dealing with if yuh want to get to know me better or spend time wit me. I was born in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, to a poor family. My mother had 10 children, but six died while very young. She said it was because she did not have enough food for all of us. My father worked as a tailor and barely could make enough money to feed my mother and one other child properly, let alone all of us kids. Since I came last in the line of children, I got nothing by way of proper care or education. When I finished elementary school at the age of twelve, there was nowhere for me to go since my father could not afford to send me anywhere else after that. So my parents decided that I should marry as soon as possible. I was a pretty little girl, but very skinny and frail. Nobody wanted to marry me because of my poor health. It was then that my mother had a wonderful idea. She asked my father for a piece of land on which to build a house. She bought some cheap jewellery for me and told me to ask the man I would be marrying, "please give me this house if you marry me." I did what my mother told me and went out looking for a man from whom she could buy this land. I found one who agreed to sell the land for the money that Mother gave him without asking anything more in return. In Ethiopia, rich girls usually have to marry someone from a very well-to-do family because those people have the most land. But my mother made me so beautiful and so nice that a man from a poor family was willing to marry me just for a house. I had not been married long when I got pregnant. At first everyone was happy because they knew I was going to have a boy, which is good in Ethiopia. Then my husband told me that he wanted his first son to be born on Christmas Day. We were already living in the new house Mother bought us with the land my husband sold her, but we still had no money for the baby’s bed or clothes. So we were forced to live in the old house. Before I knew it, my baby was coming and I was in terrible pain. The pains were so awful that I thought I was going to lose my baby. The doctor came and said that everything was fine, but when the baby finally came out, it had a big head and a big body! I wanted to kill myself or any one else who would try to help me. My husband did not want me to die because he had not been able to get any work during my pregnancy, so he did whatever he could do for me during the time of my need. cfa1e77820
