Rap music has always been, and will always be a part of society, and one of the most influential and recognized rappers in the world was 2Pac. His second album entitled "Makaveli The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory" contains 16 tracks that are regarded as some of his best. He is known for songs that are both controversial yet profound, which can be attributed to his lyrical skills. Though he was heavily criticized for trying to bring light to social issues at home through his music, it is undeniable how he has changed the game or inspired new generations coming up with their own perspectives on life through rap music. 2Pac was a man that stood up for the rights of African Americans and other ethnicities, while at the same time serving as a role model for young African American males. He also dealt with the hardships that he faced personally in his life, such as race issues and police brutality. His song "I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto" exposes the hard life he dealt with personally growing up in a poor neighborhood. In it, he gives examples of what actually goes on in the ghetto from being shot while playing basketball to being harassed by police. He also tells stories about his family and friends and how they struggled to stay alive day to day. 2Pac's popularity is credited to the fact that he was able to relate to people of all races. His music offered an insight into life in the ghetto, and how it truly is dangerous despite the glamorized version often portrayed in Hollywood movies. The album contains songs that were produced by well known producers such as Dr. Dre, Mike Mosely, Shock G, Richie Rich, Ron & Demetra Thomas, DJ Quik, Johnny J and Stretch Armstrong. The music on this album is what made this album great because it helped tell 2Pac's story through his lyrics. The tracks are filled with emotion and are able to take you right into the story of 2Pac's life through his lyrics. The music provides a great backdrop to the lyrics that tell a story. This album is considered a classic and earned 2Pac the title of Tupac The Don. This album garnered a lot of criticism because it did not feature a lot of the music elements that were popular during this time. It did not have a lot of synthesizers or raps similar to "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot or "Gangsta's Paradise" by Coolio. In contrast, the songs on this album are very serious and filled with emotion. The production was also not up to date because it did not have much bass or percussion, but rather was more mellow and laid back which allowed for easy listening. This album is good for people who do not listen to rap anymore or want to listen to some new music. This album is on my list of all time favorite albums because of the level of storytelling, storytelling style, the heartfelt lyrics, and the good beats.
